The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).

The 2022 NDHS is the twelfth in a series of national demographic surveys conducted every five years since 1968. The last survey was conducted in 2017. Information from the survey is essential for informed policy decisions, planning, and monitoring and evaluation of programs on health in general and reproductive health in particular, for both the national and regional levels.

The major data items to be collected from this undertaking are as follows:

  1. Marriage and exposure to the risk of pregnancy;
  2. Fertility and fertility preferences;
  3. Teenage pregnancy;
  4. Family planning practices;
  5. Childhood/infant mortality;
  6. Maternal and child health;
  7. Breastfeeding, complimentary feeding and micro-nutrient supplementation;
  8. Healthcare utilization and financing;
  9. Knowledge and attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS;
  10. Women empowerment; and
  11. Violence against women.

The survey will utilize a total budget of PhP 81.7 million to interview about 35,000 households and women ages 15 to 49 years old from the sampled households on 02 May to 21 June 2022 and results are expected to be released in March 2023.

The detailed results of the 2017 NDHS can be accessed at https://psa.gov.ph/sites/default/files/Philippines%20NDHS%20KIR.pdf.

The 2022 NDHS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins households and women ages 15 to 49 years old to support the 2022 NDHS by providing accurate and complete information, wherein authorized PSA interviewers will visit the sampled households and individuals to conduct the personal interview.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 and (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph and ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
