The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2021 Farm Prices Survey (FPS).

The 2021 FPS which is conducted monthly by the PSA aims to generate estimates on farmgate prices of major agricultural commodities, develop sets of price indices and measure the purchasing power of growers of selected agricultural products, and serve as inputs in analyzing the seasonal trends and variations in agricultural prices.

Data items to be collected from the survey are as follows:

1. Trade of crops by location
2. Weight and price per local unit of crops
3. Quantity of crops, livestock, and poultry sold
4. Total receipts and total freight costs of crops, livestock, and poultry
5. Trade of livestock and poultry by location
6. Classification of livestock and poultry by purpose
7. Weight and price per head/ bird/ piece of livestock and poultry

The survey will cover 81 provinces and two cities (Zamboanga City and Davao City). The following shall be interviewed in the survey: 25 farmers/raisers per crop/animal type per purpose; 5 commercial farms per animal type per purpose (for Carabao, Cattle and Goat); 8 commercial farms per animal type per purpose (for Hog and Layer Chicken) and 25 commercial farms per animal type (for Broiler Chicken, Fighting Cock, Chicken Egg, Duck and Duck Egg).

A total budget of PhP 20.7 million will be utilized for this undertaking. Final results of the survey are scheduled to be released 45 days after the reference quarter except for the last quarter of the year which would be available 20 days after the reference quarter. 

The following are latest results of the October to December 2020 FPS:

a. The average farmgate price of broiler chicken in commercial farms is PhP 87.44 per kilogram, liveweight in the last quarter of 2020 which was lower compared to previous year’s same quarter with Php 91.24 per kilogram, live weight.
b. The farmgate price of hogs upgraded for slaughter was PhP 120.14 per kilogram, liveweight. This was 21.6 percent higher compared to the last year’s same period average farmgate of Php 98.82 per kilogram, liveweight.
c. The average farmgate price of goat for slaughter was estimated at PhP 162.93 per kilogram, liveweight. Comparing it to the last quarter of 2019, this was higher than the average farmgate price by 5.7 percent or about PhP 154.15.

The 2021 FPS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the farmers and commercial farms to support the said survey.
