The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clears the conduct of the Survey on Mental Health Literacy on Young and Adult Population in the selected cities in Caraga Region which is to be conducted by the Department of Health – Caraga (DOH-Caraga).

The survey will assess the level of knowledge, attitude, belief, ability, opportunity, motivation, and behavior profiles of the respondents. Specifically, this survey aims to:

  1. describe socio-demographic profiles of respondents and their correlation with mental health literacy;
  2. measure the extent of mental health literacy components;
  3. measure the extent of ability-motivation-opportunity regarding mental health behaviors; and
  4. make a recommendation for evidence-based interventions.

Data items collected from the survey will generate the following:

  1. socio-demographic profile of the respondents;
  2. level of mental health literacy (knowledge, attitude, behavior) by age group;
  3. level of Ability-Motivation-Opportunity (skill, motivation factors, opportunity factors) by age group; and
  4. correlation analysis between demographic profile and mental health literacy.

The survey will interview a total of 800 respondents aged 18-65 years old from selected cities in Caraga (Butuan City, Cabadbaran City, Surigao City, Bislig City, and Bayugan City) with a total budget of PhP 470,300.

The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the residents from Butuan City, Cabadbaran City, Surigao City, Bislig City, and Bayugan City aged 18-65 years old to participate in the survey by providing the required information.
