The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance to the conduct of the Value Chain Analysis of Pili (Canarium ovatum Engl.) Product Cycle: A Complete Enumeration (Farmers, Growers, Traders, and Processors) by the Sorsogon State University (SSU) in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon.

The survey will be conducted in August to September 2021 in Sorsogon province. It  aims to:

a. have an inventory of Pili farmers, growers, traders, and processors in the province;
b. inquire on the gaps and issues encountered by farmers growers, traders, and processors in the Pili production; and
c. recommend specific policies and programs to further improve the pili industry.

Major data items to be collected in the survey includes the following:

a. demographic profile of Pili stakeholders (farmers, growers, traders, and processors);
b. number of pili trees, bearing trees, average production per tree;
c. raw and processed pili products;
d. stage of pili industry (training, production, and flow of product); and
e. major players in the market for raw and processed products.

The results of the survey will serve as input in the development of the Sorsogon Pili Roadmap Program (SPRmP) which ultimately aims to drive the Pili industry forward and to empower its stakeholders and to have a ripple effect on economy, livelihood, academe, environment, culture, and heritage throughout the country — most importantly to Sorsogon.

A total budget amounting to PhP 758,000 will be utilized in the survey. Results of the survey are targeted to be released in December 2021.

This undertaking was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection,
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents,
c. affect economy in statistical data collection,
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts, and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the Pili stakeholders (individuals and enterprises) in Sorsogon province to support the said survey by providing the required information to designated enumerators who will visit the farms or households to conduct the personal interview.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 and (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses: ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph or ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
