The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) through the Standards Service, granted clearance for the conduct of the “2024 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF)”. The proponent of this statistical activity is the PSA’s Social Sector Statistics Service.

A rider survey to the October 2024 Labor Force Survey, the 2024 SOF aims to collect comprehensive data on overseas Filipinos, with a particular focus on overseas workers and their economic contributions. The survey's objectives include obtaining national estimates of the number of overseas Filipinos and their socio-economic characteristics, as well as assessing the cash and in-kind transfers received by their families and the methods of remittance utilized.  

With a sample of 44,000 households, the major data items to be collected by the 2024 SOF include the number of overseas Filipinos by type, and remittances of overseas filipino workers.

In addition, the 2024 SOF questionnaires will be distributed and collected in October 2024, and the survey results are expected to be released eight months after data collection.

The “2024 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF)” was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS). This mechanism is implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

1. Ensure sound design for data collection

2. Minimize the burden placed upon respondents 

3. Effect economy in statistical data collection 

4. Eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts 

5. Achieve better coordination of government statistical activities

In line with this, the PSA encourages all sampled households to participate in this statistical activity by providing accurate and truthful information.
