The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) grants clearance for the conduct of the “4th Corporate Financial Trends Survey (CFTS)” by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

This statistical activity is a statistical initiative designed to improve the BSP’s monitoring of financing trends and to enhance comprehension of the financial status of non-financial corporations (NFCs). It focuses on detailed data such as firm-level borrowing, profitability, liquidity, solvency, and funding patterns. The information from the 4th CFTS enables a thorough assessment of the corporate sector's overall health and potential risks, crucial for crafting and reforming effective monetary and regulatory policies. This ensures that BSP’s mandate to promote and maintain financial stability is fulfilled, contributing towards a sustainable and healthier Philippine economy.

The survey aims to gather data on the different NFCs and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. The major data items to be collected from the 4th CFTS are the following:

  1. Total assets, liabilities, and equities (accounts and levels)
  2. Sources and Uses of funds
  3. Currency Mismatch (Assets vs. Liabilities)
  4. Debt-to-Equity (DE) Ratio and its distribution across different sectors
  5. Debt by Type of Financing
  6. Debt by Type of Interest Rate and Maturity to Total Debt
  7. Distribution of Debt by Sector and Currency
  8. Total Debt by Type of Interest Rate and Currency
  9. Hedged Exposures
  10. Total Revenue and Net Income (accounts and levels)
  11. Liquidity and Profitability Ratios (i.e., Current Ratio, Interest Coverage Ratio, Return on Assets, Return on Equity).

This statistical activity will utilize a total budget of PhP 100,000. The 4th CFTS will collect data from 310 enterprises (176 MSMEs and 134 large enterprises) from the 2019 BusinessWorld Top 1,000 Corporations, list of Department of Trade and Industry-assisted firms, and the Bureau van Dijk Database. Questionnaires will be distributed and collected from July to August 2024, and the survey results are expected to be released to its respondents in October of this year.

The 4th CFTS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS). This mechanism is implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. Ensure sound design for data collection
  2. Minimize the burden placed upon respondents
  3. Effect economy in statistical data collection
  4. Eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts
  5. Achieve better coordination of government statistical activities

In line with this, the PSA encourages all sampled NFCs and MSMEs to participate in this statistical activity by providing accurate and truthful information.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the PSA Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service at ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph.
