The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) piloted the use of the National ID authentication services at the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) East Avenue branch in Quezon City.

Landbank personnel authenticates Prado

A LANDBANK personnel authenticates Ronna Prado from Barangay Botocan in Quezon City, a client registered to the National ID system, for a financial transaction.

The activity aims to demonstrate the practical application of the National ID within the financial sector, specifically in banking scenarios. This includes verifying the identities of clients who are opening accounts, encashing checks, and making withdrawals using the National ID and registered information in the registry such as biometrics.

“We thank the LANDBANK for their continued support to the National ID,” said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “Similar to the success of colocation services with the LANDBANK, which has benefitted more than 8 million unbanked registered persons in the formal banking system, we are optimistic that this collaboration for the National ID authentication services will prompt other financial institutions to adopt and utilize the National ID for authentication and make banking services more accessible to registered persons.”

Ronna Prado from Barangay Botocan in Quezon City was among the clients who presented her National ID and underwent biometric authentication at LANDBANK. She found the identity verification process to be seamless while claiming her allowance from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Prado testimonial

Prado says her experience in undergoing National ID authentication is simple and fast.

“Pinag-fingerprint [scan] lang nila ako. Mabilis po lahat,” she said. “Para sa akin, mas okay [ang ganitong proseso ng identity verification] kasi mas mabilis nilang ma-verify.”

Apart from financial institutions such as LANDBANK, the National ID authentication services are being utilized in other establishments. At the PSA’s Civil Registry System (CRS) outlet at East Avenue, the biometric authentication application is being used for identity verification of clients processing civil registry documents such as the Certificate of Live Birth, Certificate of No Marriage, among others.

At Family Development Sessions (FDS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries are authenticated through fingerprint scanning which is equivalent to an attendance to FDS. Beneficiaries of 4Ps are required to attend the FDS to help them in strengthening marital relationships, parenting roles, health and nutrition, children’s educational and psychosocial needs, and promotion of family values.
