The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2022 Annual Survey of Philippine Business Industry (ASPBI). The annual survey will collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the economy for the year 2022.

Specifically, the results of survey will be used in constructing national and regional income accounts of the Philippine economy and in formulating and monitoring plans and policies in the attainment of national and regional economic goals. The survey also aims to determine and compare regional economic structures and performances, and analyze the performance and contribution of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the total economy.

Data items to be collected on the survey are the following:

  1. General Information about the establishment;

  2. Economic Activity;

  3. Legal and Economic Organization;

  4. Employment;

  5. Revenue;

  6. Sales from e-commerce transactions;

  7. Subsidies received from government;

  8. Expense;

  9. Capital expenditures and book value of assets;

  10. Total Assets;

  11. Capacity Utilization; and

  12. Inventory.

A total budget of PhP 98.2 million will be utilized on the survey. The questionnaires will be distributed to about 45,000 establishments from 7 April 2023 to 19 May 2023. Results of the survey are expected to be released in February 2024.

The 2022 ASPBI was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No.10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;

  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;

  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;

  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and

  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the establishments to support the nationwide conduct of 2022 ASPBI by providing the required information. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit establishments to distribute and collect the questionnaire.
