The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approved the clearance for the conduct of the 2022 Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) and the 2022 Producer Price Survey (PPS).

The 2022 MISSI aims to collect monthly data on employment, compensation, value of production, sales from manufacturing activity, other income, inventories of finished products, work-in-progress and raw materials and capacity utilization rate from manufacturing establishments. The information gathered will provide planners and policy makers in both government and private sectors with timely flash indicators on the performance of growth-oriented industries in the manufacturing sector. These will be used as inputs to monitor the business cycle of key manufacturing sectors of the economy.

On the other hand, the 2022 PPS will collect monthly producer price data of manufactured products produced by establishments in the manufacturing sector. The PPS is the source of producer prices which are used in the generation and compilation of the monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing sector. The PPI measures yearly and monthly changes in the producer prices of key commodities in the manufacturing sector. It is used as deflator in MISSI to derive indicators such as the Volume of Production Index (VoPI) and Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI).

A total of 1,000 establishments will be covered both in MISSI and PPS with a total budget of PhP 12.1 million for MISSI and Php 3.3 million for PPS

The results of MISSI and PPS can be accessed at https://psa.gov.ph/manufacturing/missi-id/165611 and https://psa.gov.ph/producer_survey/id/165584, respectively.

The 2022 MISSI and PPS surveys were reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the manufacturing establishments to support the MISSI and PPS by providing the required information to authorized PSA interviewers who will visit establishments to distribute and collect the questionnaires. If face to face collection is not possible, questionnaires can be submitted via email.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 and (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph and ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
