The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approves the conduct of the 2023 Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) and 2023 Producer Price Survey (PPS).

The 2023 MISSI collects monthly data on employment, compensation, value of production, revenue/sales, inventories and capacity utilization rate from manufacturing establishments. This survey aims to provide planners and policy makers in both government and private sectors with timely flash indicators on the performance of growth-oriented industries in the manufacturing sector. The data gathered are used as inputs to monitor the business cycle of key manufacturing sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, the 2023 PPS will collect monthly producer price data of manufactured commodities for the generation of Producer Price Index (PPI). The PPI measures yearly and monthly changes in the producer prices of key commodities in the manufacturing sector. It is used as deflator in MISSI to derive indicators such as the Volume of Production Index (VoPI) and Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI).

Both 2023 MISSI and 2023 PPS will cover a total of 1,000 establishments and 2,000 commodities, with a total budget of PhP 9.9 million for MISSI and Php 3.1 million for PPS.

Latest results of the MISSI and PPS can be accessed at https://psa.gov.ph/manufacturing/missi-id/168457 and https://psa.gov.ph/producer_survey/id/168598, respectively.

These surveys were reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the manufacturing establishments to support the 2023 MISSI and 2023 PPS by providing the required information to authorized PSA interviewers who will visit establishments to distribute and collect the questionnaires. Questionnaires can be submitted via email if face-to-face collection is not possible.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 376-1928 and (02) 376-1931, and email address ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph.
