For the 3rd quarter of 2016, the following are the updates on the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) as compiled by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA):
  1. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10879 also known as the MIMAROPA Act which took effect on 17 July 2016, the Southwestern Tagalog Region was established to be known as MIMAROPA Region (170000000)
     
  2. Correction of name of the City of Ozamiz (104210000) from City of Ozamis pursuant to Resolution No. 211-16 to cause the correction of the name “Ozamis” into “Ozamiz”.
     
  3. Correction of name of Barangay Hañib (020904001) in the Municipality of Mahatao, Batanes from Barangay Hanib through a certification from the Municipality of Mahatao signed by the Municipal Mayor.
The PSGC codes of these areas remained the same as per PSGC updating procedure.
 
Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, the PSA is mandated to prescribe uniform standards and classification systems in government statistics and in the generation of official statistics to ensure harmonization and comparability of statistics in the country and in the international level. PSA shall continually formulate statistical standards such as definitions of statistical terms and concepts used in official statistics, and likewise develop classification systems for adoption by government agencies.
 
The PSGC database which facilitates the search for codes and relevant information on regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays in the Philippines can be accessed at the PSGC webpage with the direct URL http://nap.psa.gov.ph/activestats/psgc/default.asp.
