On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR slightly went up to 0.1 percent in January from -0.6 percent in December. A higher growth was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.2 percent in January from 0.1 percent in December; painting materials and related compounds, 0.1 percent from zero growth and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.8 percent from -3.5 percent. Price increment in masonry materials index was at its previous month�s rate of 0.2 percent while that of tinsmithry materials remained stable as its index continued to post a zero growth during the month. The rest of the commodity groups still recorded negative growth rates.
Price hikes were generally observed in lumber, nails, paints and steel bars. On the other hand, prices of selected electrical wires and plumbing materials were on the downtrend.

The annual growth rate of the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR further decelerated to 5.6 percent in January from 6.1 percent in December due to the 5.0 percent decrease in the electrical materials index. Moreover, the annual growth rate of painting materials and related compounds index slowed down to 6.6 percent in January from 9.0 percent in December; plumbing materials, 3.3 percent from 3.5 percent; tinsmithry materials, 10.4 percent from 10.9 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 1.9 percent from 2.3 percent. The annual growth rate of masonry materials index was however higher at 9.1 percent from 9.0 percent while that of carpentry materials remained at 5.6 percent.
