  • Year-on-Year

              The year-on-year growth of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) was pegged at 2.2 percent in February 2017. It was the same rate recorded last month. In February 2016, the rate was -0.4 percent. Higher annual increases were registered in the indices of electrical materials at 2.3 percent; masonry materials, 4.2 percent; plumbing materials, 3.1 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 6.4 percent. Annual mark-ups however, decelerated in all the other commodity groups (Table 2).



  • Month-on-Month

              The CMRPI in NCR registered a flat growth in February 2017. It posted a 0.1 percent decline in the previous month. The indices of masonry materials and miscellaneous construction materials both went up by 0.6 percent; electrical materials, 0.3 percent; and plumbing materials, 0.2 percent. On the other hand, the carpentry materials index dropped by 0.4 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, -0.3 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, -0.1 percent (Table 3).

              Upward adjustments were noted in the prices of electrical wires, safety switch, PVC pipe, gravel, sand, G.I. pipes and steel bars during the month. On the contrary, price reductions were seen in plywood, common wire nails and paints.
