• Year-on-Year

  The year-on-year change of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up by 2.2 percent in January 2017. Its annual growth in December 2016 was pegged at 1.8 percent while in January 2016, it went down by 0.9 percent. Higher annual increments were observed in the indices of electrical materials at 2.0 percent; masonry materials, 3.7 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 1.3 percent; plumbing materials, 3.0 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 1.7 percent. On the other hand, annual increases in the indices of carpentry materials and miscellaneous construction materials decelerated to 1.5 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively (Table 2).
  

  
  

  

• Month-on-Month

  On a monthly basis, the CMRPI in NCR dropped by 0.1 percent in January 2017 after it recorded a 0.1 percent growth in the previous month. The indices of carpentry materials and electrical materials both declined by 0.2 percent and painting materials and related compounds, -0.1 percent. Movement of miscellaneous construction materials index remained at 0.1 percent while the rest of the commodity groups had zero growth (Table 3).

  Price reductions were observed in plywood, finishing nails and paints during the month. On the contrary, higher prices were seen in steel bars.
