RICE STOCK

• The total rice stock inventory for May 1, 2007 was estimated at 1.89 million metric tons, up by 14.4 percent from previous month’s level. Households, traders and NFA depositories posted increments in their stock volumes by 4.7, 31.1 and 44.0 percent, respectively. The current stock is enough for 59 days.
• The present stock level was lower by 21.8 percent as compared to  last year’s total inventory. Stocks in NFA depositories of which 82 percent are imported rice registered significant decrease by 65.9 percent.
• Around 63 percent of the total current stock inventory were in the households, while 24 and 13 percent were stored in commercial warehouses and NFA depositories, respectively.

CORN STOCK

• The May 1, 2007 total corn stock inventory stood at 205.1 thousand metric tons, 16.5 percent lower than previous month’s level but 12.5 percent higher than that of same period last year.
• Compared to last month and last year’s inventories, the households stock went down by 36.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively. However, stocks in commercial warehouses was higher by 41.8 percent and 46.3 percent, respectively.
• Around 57 percent of the current corn stocks were with the households while 43 percent were in commercial warehouses.
• NFA reported no corn stock for the period.
