Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - September 2010)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR remained at its August level of 155.0 while in AONCR, its level went up to 170.0.

Seasonal factors such as the prevalence of favorable weather condition experienced during the month resulted to ample supply of vegetables in the wet markets in NCR. This seasonal factor pushed down prices of FBT items in NCR. However, this seasonal factor did not push down prices of FBT items in AONCR relative to the expected trend.

No price movement was seen in seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR as its group’s index had a zero growth in September from 0.3 percent in August. Meanwhile, price hike in the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR remained at its last month’s rate of 0.4 percent.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR posted at 168.0 in September was lower than its August level of 168.2. However in AONCR, its level went up to 164.4 from 164.3 last month. The lean month of September raised prices of non-FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

Compared with last month, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR recorded a negative rate of 0.1 percent form 0.6 percent while that for AONCR, it increased to 0.1 percent from -0.1 percent.
