PRODUCTION

The seasonally adjusted palay production for July-September 2015 at 3.87 million metric tons was lower by 14.13 percent from the 4.51 million metric tons output in the second quarter.

Except Bicol Region, all regions reported reductions in output due to contraction in harvest areas and decrease in yield. These were attributed to unrealized plantings as a result of delayed and inadequate irrigation water, late occurrence of rains and some areas left in-fallow. Typhoons “Egay” and “Ineng” caused damages in the production areas of CAR, Cagayan Valley and Western Visayas. There were also reports of damages to palay farms due to army worms and stemborer infestation in the province of North Cotabato.
