As of September 30, 2015, the total number of barangays in the country increased from 42,029 as of June 30, 2015 to 42,036 with the establishment of seven (7) barangays in the City of San Pedro, in the province of Laguna. The new barangays and their corresponding codes are:

The new barangays were created after Provincial Ordinance No. 8 (s. 1997) of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Laguna, which provides for the creation of seven (7) new barangays as separate and distinct barangays from its mother barangay San Vicente, San Pedro, Laguna, was ratified and approved through a plebiscite held on July 11, 2015.
 
Other update includes the correction in the names of Barangay Botongon (063019004) from Botongan and Barangay Villa Pani-an (063019016) from Pani-an, in the municipality of Estancia, and Barangay Isauan (063045034) from Isawan, in the municipality of Tigbauan, all in the province of Iloilo. 
 
Hence, the latest number of regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays for the third quarter is shown in the table below:

Previous updates during the first two quarters of 2015 include the following: 
 
  1. Negros Island Region (NIR) was created on May 29, 2015 and was assigned a Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) Region Code of 180000000 and shall be composed of the provinces of Negros Occidental (184500000) and Negros Oriental (184600000), including their cities, municipalities, and barangays:
     
  2. Correction in the spelling of Barangay Canarom (050503016) from Canaron in the municipality of Daraga, in the province of Albay; 
     
  3. Correction in the spelling of Barangay Tandarura (050508047) from Tandarora in Ligao City, province of Albay;
     
  4. Correction in the spelling of Barangay Segapod (103512012) from Sogapod in the municipality of Maigo, Lanao del Norte: and 
     
  5. Correction in the spelling of Barangay Binanuahan (052003005) from Binanwahan in the municipality of Bato, in the province of Catanduanes.
 
The compilation of the PSGC is a collaborative effort of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), National Barangay Operations Office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (NBOO-DILG), and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA). 
 
Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, the PSA is mandated to prescribe uniform standards and classification systems in government statistics and in the generation of official statistics to ensure harmonization and comparability of statistics in the country and at the international level. The PSA shall continually formulate statistical standards such as definitions of statistical terms and concepts used in official statistics, and likewise develop classification systems for adoption by government agencies.
 
The PSGC database, which facilitates the search for codes and relevant information on regions, provinces, municipalities, cities and barangays in the Philippines is currently lodged at PSA website with URL http://nap.psa.gov.ph/activestats /psgc/default.asp.
 
The PSGC is used in the Unified Account Code Structure, particularly the location code, being implemented by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
