The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board approved the updating of the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) to include the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through PSA Board Resolution No. 13, Series of 2021 - Approving and Adopting the Third Quarter 2021 Philippine Standard Geographic Code Updates to Include the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and Correct the Names of 37 Barangays.
The BARMM was created pursuant to Republic Act No. 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law and ratified through two-round plebiscites on 21 January 2019 and 06 February 2019. The BARMM is composed of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the City of Cotabato, and the 63 barangays from different municipalities of the Province of Cotabato.
The BARMM and its geopolitical units will use the following interim codes pending the creation of new municipalities and provinces of the 63 barangays from the Province of Cotabato.

Pending the verification of TWGGC on the correct barangay name, the name of Barangay Camiling (Camiing) from Municipality of Cabangan, Zambales was reverted to previous naming format. During the Third Quarter 2020 PSGC updates, the old names of barangay/municipality/city/province previously presented together with their new names were transferred to a separate column in the PSGC masterlist.
Notwithstanding these updates in the PSGC, the total number of local government units remained the same as shown below:

The compilation and updating of the PSGC is a collaborative effort of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and its interagency TWGGC composed of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), and the Land Management Bureau (LMB).
