p /p p align="JUSTIFY"bTotal population increased to 609,447 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"As of August 1, 2007, the total population of Agusan del Sur was 609,447 persons, indicating an increase of nine percent from its total population of 559,294 persons in 2000. The total population in 2007 translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.2 percent for the period 2000 to 2007. This was 0.6 percentage point lower than the annual population growth rate of 1.79 percent for the period 1995 to 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bCity of Bayugan was the most populous city/municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"City of Bayugan, which contributed about 15.6 percent of the total population of the province, had the highest population among the city/municipalities of Agusan del Sur. This was followed by municipalities of Prosperidad (12.4 percent) and San Francisco (10.3 percent). In 2000, these three city/municipalities were also the top three city/municipalities in terms of population size./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0947f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bAverage household size decreased to 5.1 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households increased by 14.7 percent from 103,637 in 2000 to 118,845 in 2007. Likewise, the household population increased by 8.9 percent from 558,414 to 608,361 in 2000 and 2007, respectively. These figures implied an average household size of 5.1 persons, which was lower than the average household size of 5.4 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio was 109 males for every 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population, there were more males (52.1 percent) than females (47.9 percent) in 2007. This indicated a sex ratio of 109 males for every 100 females. In 2000, a lower proportion of males (51.8 percent) was observed with a sex ratio of 107 males for every 100 females./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0947f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age increased by one year/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the household population of Agusan del Sur had a median age of 19 years, which means that half of the household population were below 19 years old. This was one year higher than the registered median age of 18 years in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"About two out of five persons (40.4 percent) were under 15 years old, of which, the highest proportion was observed in the age group 0 to 4 years (13.9 percent). This was followed closely by age group 5 to 9 years and 10 to 14 years, both contributed 13.3 percent to the household population. Females outnumbered their male counterparts in the age group 75 years and over while males dominated the household population in the rest of the age groups./p p align="JUSTIFY"bVoting-age population at 52.2 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (52.2 percent) of the household population comprised the voting-age population (18 years old and over) of Agusan del Sur. This was 2.2 percentage points higher than the proportion of voting-age population in 2000 (50.0 percent). The proportion of male voters (52.7 percent) was higher than female voters (47.3 percent) by 5.4 percentage points./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependents decreased by 6 persons for every 100 persons in the working age group/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The working age group (15 to 64 years) accounted for 56.3 percent of the household population. The proportion of young dependents (0 to 14 years) to household population was 40.4 percent while the old dependents (65 years and over) recorded a share of 3.3 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio was 77.8, which indicated that there were about 78 dependents for every 100 persons in the working age group. In 2000, the overall dependency ratio was 84.4 percent or 84 dependents for every 100 working-age population. This showed a decrease of 6 dependents for every 100 working-age population from 2000 to 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore than half were single persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Less than half (45.2 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were single while 44.3 percent were married in 2007. The rest (10.5 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were either widowed, divorced/separated, common-law/live-in or with unknown marital status. In 2000, the household population 10 years old and over was also dominated by single persons (46.1 percent) but the proportion of these persons in 2007 was lower by 0.9 percentage point./p p align="JUSTIFY"Males dominated the single (57.0 percent of single persons) and divorced/separated (50.4 percent of divorced/separated persons) household population 10 years old and over. The rest of the marital status of household population 10 years old and over were dominated by females./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females reached higher level of education than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the total household population 5 years old and over, about 49.0 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 28.3 percent had reached high school, 4.9 percent were college undergraduate, and 4.1 percent were academic degree holders. Of the household population five years old and over who reached at least college level, more than half (55.0 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"About 60 percent of the household population 5 to 24 years old attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. The same proportion of males and females 5 to 24 years old had attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008./p p align="JUSTIFY"bFive persons per occupied housing unit/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, there were 117,554 occupied housing units, an increase of 15.3 percent from the 101,926 occupied housing units in 2000. There were 101 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 5.2 persons per occupied housing unit in 2007, which was slightly lower than that of the 2000. The ratio in 2000 was 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 5.5 persons per occupied housing unit./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of occupied housing units with strong materials of roofs and walls increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About 68.6 percent of the occupied housing units in Agusan del Sur used wood as the construction material for the outer walls. This figure showed a decrease of 6.1 percentage points from the proportion of occupied housing units which used the same material for the outer walls in 2000. It was noted that usage of concrete/brick/stone for the outer walls increased from 5.9 percent in 2000 to 9.3 percent in 2007.
