p align="JUSTIFY"bHouseholds increased by 2,429/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The population of Siquijor was 87,695 persons as of August 1, 2007, based on the 2007 Census of Population (POPCEN 2007). This figure was higher by 6,097 persons over the population count of 81,598 persons in 2000. The recent population count for the province translates to an annual growth rate of 1.00 percent for the period 2000 to 2007, lower than the 2.19 percent annual growth rate registered for the period 1995 to 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 19,780, which was 2,429 households more than the 2000 figure. The average household size in 2007 was 4.4 persons, which was slightly lower than the average household size of 4.7 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSiquijor was the most populated municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 6 municipalities in the province of Siquijor, Siquijor, the provincial capital, was the most populous with a population of 23,673 persons or 27.0 percent of the provincial total population. This municipality was followed by Lazi (22.2 percent), San Juan (15.0 percent), Maria (14.8 percent), and Larena (14.3 percent). The municipality of Enrique Villanueva (6.7 percent) had the least share./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr09101f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMales dominated the household population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 87,607 household population of Siquijor, 50.5 percent were males and 49.5 percent were females. These translate to a sex ratio of 102 males for every 100 females, which is slightly higher than the sex ratio of 100 in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHalf of the population of Siquijor were below 26 years old/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Siquijor had a median age of 26 years, which shows that half of the household population were below 26 years old. The median age for the province in 2007 was 1 year higher than the median age of 25 years recorded in 2000./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr09101f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bVoting-age population at 62.2 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About three in every five (62.2 percent) of the household population of Siquijor were in the voting-age group (18 years old and over). The distribution of voting-age population by sex was almost even, with males sharing 50.0 percent and females, 49.9 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio remained at 69/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15-64 years) was 59.3 percent, young dependents (0-14 years) was 31.7 percent and old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 9.0 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio was 68.7, which implies that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were about 69 dependents (54 young dependents and 15 old dependents). In 2000, the overall dependency ratio was recorded at 69.3./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSingle persons comprised more of males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Almost half (48.0 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were married while 41.3 percent were single. The marital status of the rest of the population was either widowed, divorced/separated, common law/live-in, or unknown. Among single persons, males, which accounted for 55.8 percent of the total single persons, outnumbered the females. Except for the unknown category of marital status, females led the males in the rest of the categories./p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2000, the proportion of married persons was 46.3 percent and that for single persons was 44.0 percent of the total household population 10 years old and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females pursued higher levels of education/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 41.9 percent had attended or finished elementary education and 29.9 percent had reached high school. On the other hand, academic degree holders accounted for 8.4 percent, which showed an increase of 4.3 percentage points from the 2000 figure of 4.1 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females pursued higher levels of education than males. Majority of those with academic degree (53.4 percent) and post baccalaureate degree (64.2 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"For the household population 5 to 24 years old, 71.5 percent attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total females aged 5 to 24 years, 73.4 percent attended school at anytime during the School Year 2007 to 2008, while attendance for males was 69.8 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years old./p p align="JUSTIFY"bNumber of occupied housing units increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"From a total of 17,260 occupied housing units in 2000, the number of occupied housing units reached 19,638 in 2007, showing an increase of 13.8 percent. The average number of households for every 100 occupied housing units in 2007 and 2000 were the same at 101 households per occupied housing unit. However, in terms of number of persons per occupied housing unit, the ratio of 4.5 persons per occupied housing unit in 2007 was slightly lower than the ratio of 4.7 persons per occupied housing unit in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMost occupied housing units were made of strong materials/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"An improvement in the materials used for the roof was observed in 2007. The proportion of occupied housing units with roof made of galvanized iron/aluminum increased from 72.1 percent in 2000 to 79.9 percent in 2007. On the other hand, the proportion of occupied housing units with roof made of cogon/nipa/anahaw dropped from 26.1 percent in 2000 to 14.2 percent in 2007 or a percentage difference of 11.9 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"As to the construction materials of the outer walls, 28.6 percent of the occupied housing units in 2007 used wood for the outer walls. Use of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa for the outer walls decreased from 26.7 percent in 2000 to 21.5 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
