The estimated palay production for April to June 2023 may increase to 4.27 million metric tons or by 1.6 percent based on standing crop as of 01 June 2023 from the 4.20 million metric tons actual output in the same period of 2022. 4. Of the total area of 120.63 thousand hectares of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 June 2023, 96.9 percent were at the maturing stage, while 3.1 percent were at the reproductive stage. (Figure 2 and Table 3)

CORN
1. Based on standing crop as of 01 June 2023, the updated corn production for the period of April to June 2023 may decline to 1.48 million metric tons or by -0.5 percent from the 1.49 million metric tons recorded output in the same period of 2022. However, the updated corn production estimate as of 01 June 2023 based on standing crop was higher by 0.3 percent from the 1.47 million metric tons record as of 01 April 2023. (Figure 3 and Table 4)

2. Harvest area for the period of April to June 2023 may decrease to 408.89 thousand hectares or by -2.6 percent based on standing crop from 419.99 thousand hectares actual harvest area in the same period of the previous year. Based on standing crop, the yield per hectare may improve to 3.61 metric tons or by 2.3 percent from its previous year’s same quarter record of 3.53 metric tons. (Table 4)

3. As of 01 June 2023, the updated area harvested for corn was 323.92 thousand hectares or 79.2 percent of the 408.89 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop with reported corn production of 1.25 million metric tons. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. As of 01 June 2023, the total area yet to be harvested was recorded at 84.98 thousand hectares. About 86.5 percent of standing corn were at the maturing stage, while 13.5 percent were at the reproductive stage. (Figure 4 and Table 6)
