HIGHLIGHTS

The estimated palay production for the period of July to September 2023 based on standing crop as of 01 August 2023 may be lower than the July to September 2022 actual estimate. However, the updated corn production based on standing crop as of 01 August 2023 may increase compared with the actual harvest in the same period of 2022.  

PALAY                                                                                                      

1. As of 01 August 2023, the estimated palay production based on standing crop for July to September 2023 may decrease to 3.788 million metric tons or by -0.03 percent from its actual output of 3.790 million metric tons in the same period of 2022. Likewise, the updated estimate of palay production for the period of July to September 2023 as of 01 August 2023 reflected a decrease of -2.3 percent from its estimate of 3.876 million metric tons as of 
01 July 2023. (Figure 1 and Table 1) 

 

2. The estimated harvest area based on standing crop for the period of July to September 2023 may decrease to 926.95 thousand hectares or by -0.5 percent from 931.75 thousand hectares of actual harvested area in the same period of 2022. Based on standing crop for the period of July to September 2023, the yield per hectare of palay may improve to 4.09 metric tons or by 0.5 percent compared with the previous year’s same period yield of 4.07 metric tons.

3. As of 01 August 2023, about 168.07 thousand hectares or 18.1 percent of the 926.95 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing crop have been harvested with recorded palay output of 693.51 thousand metric tons. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the total area of 758.88 thousand hectares of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 August 2023, 14.7 percent were at the vegetative stage, 55.5 percent at the reproductive stage, and 29.8 percent at the maturing stage. (Figure 2 and Table 3)

CORN

1. The estimated corn production based on standing crop for the period of July to September 2023 may increase to 2.48 million metric tons or by 5.4 percent as of 01 August 2023 from its actual estimate of 2.35 million metric tons in the same period of 2022. Meanwhile, the updated estimate of corn production based on standing crop as of 01 August 2023 indicated a decrease of -3.1 percent from its record of 2.56 million metric tons as of 01 July 2023. (Figure 3 and Table 4)

 

2. Harvest area based on standing corn for the period of July to September 2023 may increase to 820.73 thousand hectares or by 1.8 percent from 806.42 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of the previous year. Correspondingly, the yield per hectare of corn may increase to 3.02 metric tons or by 3.8 percent from its previous year’s same quarter record of 2.91 metric tons. (Table 4)

3. As of 01 August 2023, about 207.59 thousand hectares or 25.3 percent of the 820.73 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing corn has been harvested, translating to 580.42 thousand metric tons of corn output. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. Of the 613.14 thousand hectares of standing corn yet to be harvested as of 01 August 2023, about 7.2 percent were at the vegetative stage, 49.0 percent at the reproductive stage, and 43.8 percent at the maturing stage. (Figure 4 and Table 6)
