In the second quarter of 2023, the volume of crops production was recorded at 17,879.44 thousand metric tons. This exhibits an annual decline of -0.9 percent compared with the same period of the previous year at 18,050.56 thousand metric tons. The annual decline in the volume of crop production during the quarter was mainly brought about by the annual decreases noted in the production of corn (-0.8%), sugarcane (-11.3%), rubber, cuplump (-8.5%), and sweet potato (-7.5%). The volume of livestock production from April to June 2023 was estimated at 540.46 thousand metric tons. This indicates an annual increase of 0.6 percent relative to the same quarter Of the previous year with production level at 537.37 thousand metric tons. The top contributor to this increment was hog production, which grew by 1.0 percent annually. (Figure 2)

In the second quarter of 2023, poultry production was recorded at 680.50 thousand metric tons, reflecting an increase of 1.5 percent compared with the previous year’s same period level of 670.59 thousand metric tons. Chicken production, with a 70.2 percent share to the total volume of poultry production, grew by 3.2 percent. This primarily contributed to the annual increase of poultry production during the period. (Figure 3)

During the second quarter of 2023, the volume of fisheries production was registered at 1,082.22 thousand metric tons.  It diminished by -11.3 percent from the 1,219.94 thousand metric tons output in the same quarter of 2022. The annual decline in the volume of fisheries production during the period was mainly driven by the annual decreases noted in skipjack (gulyasan, -49.2%), milkfish (bangus, -19.1%), seaweed (-4.9%), fimbriated sardines (tunsoy, -42.2%), and yellowfin tuna (tambakol/bariles, -23.2%).
