How Private Are Your Data?

This session aims to increase awareness on Freedom of Information as a government mechanism, which allows Filipino citizens to request any information about government transactions and operations, provided that it shall not put into jeopardy – privacy and matters of national security. This session also involves discussion on the Data Privacy Act which is to protect the fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth.

What You Need to Know About Civil Registration and the Philippine Identification System?

This session provides statistics on live births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, etc. The most common way of collecting information on these events is through civil registration, an administrative system used by governments to record vital events which occur in their populations.

Game: Stats and Ladders (Elimination Rounds)

Sharing the same concept as the board game classic “Snakes and Ladders”,

Stats and Ladders is a “life-size” board game comprised of two or more players all sharing the same objective of reaching the last board tile. All players can navigate the board through by rolling the die after answering a set of statistics questions.)

Contest on Data Cartooning

An on-the-spot contest on the illustration of the data into more visually appealing and concise but informative way. During the contest proper, participants will be given data or statistics produced by PSA which will be used in illustrating cartoons or set of image/s.

An on-the-spot contest on the preparation of articles using official statistics will be conducted. The pointers they got during the plenary session on Data Storytelling will be used in this contest. During the contest proper, participants will be given a topic or set of statistics as their basis in crafting their article.

Launching of Enhanced OpenSTAT

This session introduces to the public the improved and more responsive OpenSTAT portal of the Philippine Statistics Authority. With the PSA as the primary statistical arm of the government responsible for the conduct and content of all national censuses and surveys, PSA’s Open Data Portal or OpenSTAT aims to make the statistical data collected and compiled by the PSA be available to the general public. OpenSTAT contains datasets on various statistical subject matters with corresponding metadata for the public to use for free.
