# Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS)

## Electricity is the most common source of energy used by households

Based on the results of the 2011 Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS), electricity remains as the most common source of energy used by households in the Philippines. About 87 percent of 21.0 million households used electricity from March to August 2011. The other sources used by a significant proportion of households include fuelwood, charcoal, LPG and kerosene with at least one-third of the total households using any of these types of fuel in 2011 (Table 1).

## October 2004 Household Energy Consumption Survey

ELECTRICITY REMAINS AS THE UNIVERSAL SOURCE OF ENERGY...

According to the results of the survey, 14.6 million households or 87.6 percent of the 16.6 million households used electricity during the period October 2003 to September 2004 (Table 1). This was 3.6 percentage points higher compared to the recorded level of 10.8 million households in 1995, which comprised 83.9 percent of the total 12.8 million households.
