Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing (AHFF)

AHFF inched up by 1.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019, compared to the 1.8 percent growth in the same period of 2018.

Agriculture slows down

The Agriculture Industry which shared 81.7 percent to the total AHFF industry decelerated as it grew by 1.0 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the 1.6 percent increase in the same period of the previous year.  Major contributors to the industry’s growth were:  Palay, which grew by 4.8 percent; Poultry, 5.5 percent; Agricultural Activities and Services, 5.9 percent; Coconut, 3.2 percent; Other Crops, 1.3 percent; Rubber, 6.4 percent; Pineapple, 0.9 percent; Coffee, 4.0 percent; Cassava, 0.6 percent; and Mango, 0.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the declines in the following sub-industries pulled down the growth of Agriculture:  Livestock, by 8.3 percent; Corn, 7.1 percent; Sugarcane, 15.6 percent; and Banana, 1.3 percent.

Forestry declines

Forestry declined by 14.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the increase of 43.2 percent in the same period of 2018.

Fishing improves

Fishing, which accounted for 18.1 percent of the total AHFF, expanded by 3.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019.  Top contributors to the increase were milkfish, tilapia, tiger prawn and skipjack.
