Mining and Quarrying declines
Mining and Quarrying declined by
10.9 percent in the second quarter of 2018 compared with the 19.2 percent increase of the same period of the previous year. The main contributor to the decline was Nickel mining which contracted by 27.1 percent. Other subsectors that contributed to the decline were: Other non-metallic mining, 12.3 percent; Gold mining, 7.8 percent;
4.8 percent; and Other metallic mining, 7.6 percent.
The rest of the sub-sectors under Mining and Quarrying increased during the period: Stone Quarrying, Clay and Sandpits by
12.4 percent; Crude Oil, Natural Gas & Condensate by 1.5 percent; and Chromium mining by 314.8 percent.
