HFCE grew by 8.6 percent in the second quarter of 2022. This was an improvement from the 7.3 percent growth registered in the same period of 2021. (Figure 5)
Food and non-alcoholic beverages, sharing 40.0 percent of the total household spending, grew by 5.8 percent and was the top contributor to the growth of HFCE. Other top contributors were the following: Transport, 25.7 percent; Restaurants and hotels, 32.3 percent; Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 7.0 percent; and Miscellaneous goods and services, 7.5 percent.
Among the HFCE items, only Health declined with -2.4 percent.
