Tobacco

- During the quarter, tobacco production slightly grew by 3.8 percent, from 12.55 thousand metric tons to 13.03 thousand metric tons. The increase was attributed to the following:
- increase in area harvested, complement of contract growing by Philip Morris-Fortune Tobacco Corp. in Northern Mindanao (Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon); and
- early harvesting of Other variety (Burley) in Cagayan Valley (Isabela).

- Ilocos Region produced the majority of the national tobacco production for the quarter at 84.5 percent.
- Virginia was the highest-produced variety, constituting 95.0 percent of the total tobacco production. Native variety and Other variety (Burley) comprised 3.5 percent and 1.5 percent of the total production, respectively.
