The National Statistics Month (NSM) Awards has been instituted since 2002 as a means of providing incentives to participating agencies/organizations in the observance of NSM. This award is given in recognition of the outstanding participation of agencies and regional offices in the NSM celebration and encourage them to be more active in their involvement in the observance of the NSM.
In October 2020, awards will be given to individual winners in five categories:
- Best Statistical Activity Conducted by a Government Organization
All agencies of the government, local government units (LGUs), academic institutions, state universities and colleges, government-owned and controlled corporations in the Philippines with statistical activities undertaken in October 2019 are welcome to send entries for this category. Statistical forums, information dissemination activities and contests conducted in October 2019 by proponent agencies/units of the government are covered in this category, to wit:
- Statistical Forum - workshops, symposia, trainings and lectures on statistics
- Statistical Information Dissemination Activity - exhibits, web-based/online disseminations, database systems, information caravans, publications, primers, flyers, and bulletins
- Statistical Contest - statistics quizzes, oratorical contests, essay contests, poster-making contest related to statistics where participants compete for an award
- Best Statistical Activity Conducted by a Private Organization
All private firms and non-profit organizations are welcome to send entries for this category. A private organization can nominate its own statistical activities undertaken in October 2019 or an activity undertaken by another private entity, so long as the nominating party can provide evidence and/or the nominee can provide pertinent documentation sufficient for the evaluation of the 30th NSM Awards Board of Judges. Government agencies can also nominate statistical activities spearheaded by a private organization under this category. However, private organizations that were nominated by government agencies must provide sufficient documentation to the NSM Secretariat for evaluation by the 30th NSM Awards Board of Judges. Statistical activities in the form of forums, information dissemination activities and contests, which were conducted in October 2019 by private sector organizations/groups, are covered in this category.
- Best Youth Group Advocate for Statistics
All youth organizations in the private and public universities and colleges, LGUs and other sectors of the society, which conducted statistical advocacy activities from January to December 2019, can send entries for this category. Government agencies and private organizations can nominate youth organizations with outstanding efforts in promoting statistics in various venues and formats, provided that sufficient documentation is submitted by the nominated youth organizations to merit the evaluation of the 30th NSM Awards Board of Judges.
- Best LGU Advocate for Statistics
All LGUs, from municipal/city to provincial level, which conducted statistical advocacy activities from January to December 2019, can send entries for this category. Government agencies and private organizations can nominate LGUs with very strong support for statistics and employ a world-class approach in promoting statistics, provided that sufficient documentation is submitted by the nominated LGUs to merit the evaluation of the 30th NSM Awards Board of Judges.
- Best NSM Region
All Regional Statistics Committees (RSCs) which have undertaken statistical activities in October 2019 are invited to send entries for this category. The statistical activities can be in the form of forums, information dissemination activities and contests. The Regional Statistical Services Offices (RSSOs) shall consolidate materials/documentation on subnational NSM activities for an integrated submission for the NSM Best Region.
