The 31st NSM Awards

The National Statistics Month (NSM) Awards system has been instituted since 2002 as a means of providing incentives to participating agencies/organizations in the observance of NSM.

This award is given in recognition of the outstanding participation of agencies and regional offices in the celebration of the NSM and encourage them to be more active in their involvement in the observance of the NSM. Each year, the NSM Subcommittee on Programs and Awards reviews and approves the criteria.

  1. NSM Awards Categories

In October 2021, awards will be given to individual winners in five categories, as follows:

1.1 Best Statistical Activity Conducted by a Government Organization

All agencies of the government, local government units (LGUs), academic institutions, state universities and colleges, government-owned and controlled corporations in the Philippines with statistical activities undertaken in October 2020 are welcome to send entries for this category. Statistical forums, information dissemination activities and contests conducted in October 2020 by proponent agencies/units of the government are covered in this category, to wit:

  • Statistical Forum - workshops, symposia, trainings, seminar and lectures on statistics
     
  • Statistical Information Dissemination Activity - exhibits, web-based/online dissemination, database systems, information caravans, publications, primers, flyers, and bulletins
     
  • Statistical Contest - statistics quizzes, oratorical contests, essay contests, poster-making contest related to statistics where participants compete for an award

1.2 Best Statistical Activity Conducted by a Private Organization

All private firms and non-profit organizations are welcome to send entries for this category. A private organization can nominate its own statistical activities undertaken in October 2020 or an activity undertaken by another private entity, so long as the nominating party can provide evidence and/or the nominee can provide pertinent documentation sufficient for the evaluation of the 31st NSM Board of Judges. Government agencies can also nominate statistical activities spearheaded by a private organization under this category. However, private organizations that were nominated by government agencies must provide sufficient documentation to the NSM Secretariat for evaluation by the 31st NSM Awards Board of Judges.

Statistical activities in the form of forums, information dissemination activities and contests (see 1.1), which were conducted in October 2020 by private sector organizations/groups, are covered in this category.

1.3 Best NSM Region

All Regional Statistics Committees (RSCs) which have undertaken statistical activities in October 2020 are invited to send entries for this category. The statistical activities can be in the form of forums, information dissemination activities and contests.

The Regional Statistical Service Offices (RSSOs) shall consolidate materials/ documentation on subnational NSM activities for an integrated submission for the Best NSM Region.

1.4 Best Youth Group Advocate for Statistics

All youth organizations in private and public universities and colleges, LGUs and other sectors of the society, which conducted statistical advocacy activities from January to December 2020, can send entries for this category. Government agencies and private organizations can nominate youth organizations with outstanding efforts in promoting statistics in various venues and formats, provided that sufficient documentation is submitted by the nominated youth organizations to merit the evaluation of the 31st NSM Awards Board of Judges.

1.5 Best LGU Advocate for Statistics

All LGUs, from municipal/city to provincial level, which conducted statistical advocacy activities from January to December 2020, can send entries for this category. Government agencies and private organizations can nominate LGUs with very strong support for statistics and employ a world-class approach in promoting statistics, provided that sufficient documentation is submitted by the nominated LGUs to merit the evaluation of the 31st NSM Awards Board of Judges.

How to apply

Applicants can either apply or be nominated by submitting the following requirements:

  • Accomplished Nomination Form
  • Photographs (printed or e-copy format) and/or video of the activities
  • List of outputs and outcomes of the activities conducted
  • Information on the coverage and beneficiaries of the activities
  • Total expenses incurred and list of resources used for the conduct of the activities
  • Weblinks on the activities (YouTube, social media, websites, online news articles, etc.), if any
  • Feedback forms or evaluation sheet of conducted activity/ies
  1. Applications or nominations must be coursed through the PSA-RSSO, who will submit to PSA Central Office within five working days after receipt and checking of the document’s completion.
     
  2. The above-mentioned requirements must be submitted not later than 31 August 2021 to the 31st NSM Awards Secretariat thru:

  1. Submission of entries after the deadline will not be accepted.
     
  2. Decisions of the Board of Judges shall be final. Contestants or their representatives shall agree to the immunity of the members of the Board of Judges, the PSA and its employees from any legal suit that may arise from or relative to the conduct of the contest.
     
  3. Materials submitted by the contestants as entries may be used by the PSA for information dissemination related to the conduct of this contest.
     
  4. Sole entry in a specific category will not automatically make the entry qualify to the title or award. The entry will still be evaluated by the Board of Judges.
     
  5. The Board of Judges has the right not to declare any winner and/or may opt to give only special citations, if deemed necessary.

Prizes

A plaque will be given to the winners during the 32nd NSM Closing Ceremony.

Board of Judges

The Subcommittee on Programs and Awards (with the NSM Secretariat) shall serve as the Board of Judges.
