To recognize outstanding participation in the NSM celebration and to encourage more participation in future NSM celebrations, the NSM Awards was launched in 2002.  Specifically, the NSM Awards System was envisioned to serve as an incentive to government and private organizations, regions, youth groups, and local government units (LGUs). It aims to promote the conduct of activities that will further the objectives and spirit of the NSM celebration.  The first NSM Awards were given during the opening ceremony for the 14th NSM celebration held in October 2003.
