Death rates associated with tuberculosis

The number of deaths caused by tuberculosis per 100,000 population.

Notes: Also known as tuberculosis mortality rate

Energy/Nutrient Adequacy

The level of intake of energy or essential nutrient in relation to the energy/nutrient requirement for adequate health, which is expressed as percentage of recommended energy and nutrient intake (RENI)

Notes: RENI refers to levels of intake of energy and nutrients that are considered adequate for the maintenance of health and wellbeing of nearly all healthy persons in the population. 100% adequacy refers to the state of nutrient intake that is sufficient to maintain health and provide reasonable levels of reserves in body tissues

Fetal Death (deadborn fetus)

death prior to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy

Notes: This is the operational definition. It is commonly used even by international organizations in lieu of a more technically correct definition which is often not supported by readily-available data.

Board Resolution: Resolution No. 8 - Series of 2006 approved: 5/22/2006

Fetal Death Rate (FDR)

the ratio of the number of fetal deaths in a population occurring within a given period to the total number of live births and fetal deaths occurring within the same period, expressed per 1,000

Notes: This is the operational definition. It is commonly used even by international organizations in lieu of a more technically correct definition which is often not supported by readily-available data.

Fully immunized children

Infants who received one dose of BCG, three doses each of OPV, DPT, and Hepatitis B vaccines, and one dose of measles vaccine before reaching one year of age.

Notes: BCG - Bacillus (or Bacille) Calmette-Guerin OPV - oral polio vaccine DPT - diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus

Height-for-Age

An indicator that is used to determine past or chronic nutritional status of children 0-10 years old where each child’s actual height/length is compared with the standard or reference height/length for his/her age

Notes: Latest NCHS/WHO IRS is for 1995; new Child Growth Standards (CGS) issued by WHO in 2006 not yet adopted in the Philippines

Hospital Bed Occupancy Rate

the number of in-patient hospital beds occupied divided by the average number of hospital beds, expressed in percent.

Reference: 2006 IACHNS

Board Resolution: Resolution No. 8 - Series of 2006
approved: 5/22/2006

Hospital Bed-Population Ratio

the ratio of hospital beds to the population, usually expressed as the number of available hospital beds for every 1,000 population.

Board Resolution: Resolution No. 8 - Series of 2006
approved: 5/22/2006

Incidence Rate (of a disease)

the rate at which new cases of a disease occur in the population. The numerator is the number of new cases of a disease that occur during a given period (usually a year), and the denominator is the number of the population at risk of experiencing the disease during the same period, usually expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 persons.

Notes: This is the operational definition. It is commonly used even by international organizations in lieu of a more technically correct definition which is often not supported by readily-available data.

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)

the probability of dying between birth and age one, expressed as the number of infant deaths or deaths occurring before reaching 12 months of life in a given period per 1,000 live births.
