PSA Clears the Conduct of the Contraceptive Use Survey in Caraga

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clears the conduct of the Contraceptive Use Survey in Caraga by the Department of Health- Caraga. The survey is in coordination and will be conducted by the Caraga State University.

The survey aims to assess and document the factors contributing to the contraceptive use and non-use among Women of Reproductive Age (WRA) in Caraga Region. WRA refers to the women whose age ranges from 15 to 49 years old, and with marital status of married or live-in.

Specifically, the survey aims to:

  1. describe the demographic profile of the respondents;
  2. assess and document the socio-economic and psychological determinants influencing the contraceptive use and non-use;
  3. assess and document the marital and service provision determinants influencing to the contraceptive use and non-use; and
  4. test the relationship between the demographic and determinants of contraceptive use and non-use.

Major data items to be collected in the survey are the following:

  1. Socio-demographic profile of the respondents;
  2. Contraceptive use and preference;
  3. Social, economic, and psychological determinants;
  4. Knowledge of contraception;
  5. Access to services; and
  6. Wife and husband’s approval of the contraceptive.

With a total budget of PhP 350,000, the survey will be conducted from the 4th week of August to 2nd week of September 2022 covering about 600 WRA in Caraga Region. Results of the surveys are expected to be released in the 2nd week of November 2022.

The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins women aged 15 to 49 years old with marital status of married or live-in residing in Caraga region to participate in the survey by providing the required information.
