Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (1985=100) : August 2010

  • Month-on-Month

    The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.8 percent in August from 0.2 percent in July. This was due to a higher monthly price increment recorded in the index of plywood at 0.5 percent from 0.3 percent; fuels and lubricants, 1.8 percent from -0.7 percent; glass and glass products, 2.5 percent from 0.8 percent; concrete products, 0.8 percent from 0.1 percent; and reinforcing steel, 0.5 percent from 0.2 percent. From zero growth, the indexes of the following commodity groups also picked up during the month: sand, stone and gravel (0.3%); lumber (2.3%); wood products (0.8%); and aluminum and other metal products (0.6%). However, price declines were observed in the indexes of cement, metal pipes and interior electrical fixtures and devices. The monthly upward price gains in paints and structural steel index were still at 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. Price movements in the indexes of the rest of commodity groups were at a slower rate or had a zero growth.

    The annual rate of price increase based on the CMWPI in NCR rose to 5.2 percent in August from 4.4 percent in July. Higher annual price hikes were posted in eleven commodity groups with glass and glass products index registering the biggest jump of 2.7 percentage points (9.1% from 6.4%). Slower annual price adjustments were however recorded in the indexes of cement, fuels and lubricants and interior electrical fixtures and devices. Moreover, annual price declines were noted in the indexes of wood products, metal pipes and tileworks. The annual price uptick for the rest of the commodity groups remained at their last month's annual growth rates while those for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental were still zero.
