Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (1985=100) : July 2005

The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) registered a slower rate of increment of 0.3 percent in July from 0.6 percent in June. Price additions were slower in sand, stone and gravel, lumber and G.I. sheets. Increases were observed in the prices of the following commodity groups: cement, 0.7 percent in July from 0.1 percent in June; fuels and lubricants, 5.1 percent from 0.9 percent; hardware, 0.2 percent from zero growth; paints, 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent; structural steel, 0.2 percent from -0.5 percent; and tileworks, 0.1 percent from zero growth. Prices of the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable as they posted zero growth this month.
The annual inflation rate of the CMWPI in NCR was slightly higher at 12.6 percent in July from 12.3 percent in June. Higher rates were noted in the prices of the following commodity groups: sand, stone and gravel, 16.1 percent in July from 15.7 percent in June; cement, 11.9 percent from 11.2 percent; lumber, 12.8 percent from 12.4 percent; plywood, 6.9 percent from 5.4 percent; fuels and lubricants, 28.3 percent from 22.7 percent; hardware, 10.6 percent from 10.3 percent; paints, 17.7 percent from 17.2 percent; structural steel, 5.7 percent from 5.5 percent; G.I. sheets, 20.8 percent from 20.3 percent; and tileworks, 9.7 percent from 9.6 percent. Slower annual rate of price add-on in concrete products was observed while inflation rates recorded in asphalt, aluminum and other metal products, blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental were zero. The rest of the commodity groups moved at their last month's positive rates.
