The annual headline inflation rate at the national level further decelerated to 3.9 percent in June from 4.3 percent in May. Slower annual price increases were posted in all the commodity groups except in food, beverages and tobacco (FBT) index. Inflation a year ago was 1.5 percent.
Excluding selected food and energy items, core inflation further improved to 3.7 percent in June from 3.8 percent in May.
Similarly, annual inflation rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) eased to 4.1 percent in June from 4.6 percent in May due to the slowdown in the services index.
Annual inflation in Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR) slowed to 3.8 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May as all the commodity groups recorded lower annual price increments except in FBT index.

The general upward adjustments in the prices of food items such as rice, corn, meat, and eggs pulled up the overall month-on-month inflation rate by 0.2 percent in June from -0.2 percent in May. Tuition fee hikes in many regions including NCR also contributed to the uptrend.

The annual inflation rate in NCR continued to slow down as it settled to 4.1 percent in June from 4.6 percent in May.

Annual inflation rate in AONCR likewise slipped to 3.8 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May. Except Northern Mindanao, Davao and Caraga, all the regions registered slower annual inflation rates with the biggest slowdown of 0.8 percentage point seen in MIMAROPA (3.6% from 4.4%). The lowest annual rate was noted in Eastern Visayas at 2.5 percent while the highest rate at 5.8 percent was still in ARMM.

At the national level, the annual price increases in all the commodity groups slowed down except for FBT index whose rate remained at 3.1 percent in June. The annual price gain in clothing index decelerated to 1.9 percent in June from 2.1 percent in May; housing and repairs (H&R), 1.6 percent from 1.7 percent; fuel, light and water (FLW), 15.8 percent from 16.2 percent; services, 3.9 percent from 5.8 percent; and miscellaneous items, 1.3 percent from 1.5 percent.
The overall annual inflation for food alone moved at its last month’s rate of 3.2 percent.
A higher annual price increment was posted in cereal preparations index at 3.4 percent in June from 3.2 percent in May; fruits and vegetables, 2.9 percent from 2.3 percent; meat, 5.4 percent from 5.3 percent; and miscellaneous foods, 6.1 percent from 5.9 percent. However, the annual price uptick in dairy products and eggs index correspondingly eased to 1.5 percent and 2.3 percent from 1.6 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively. The annual price movement in the fish index remained at 3.3 percent while that for the corn index continued to decrease at -2.9 percent from -5.9 percent. No annual price change was seen in the rice index as it recorded a zero growth from 0.3 percent.

In NCR, the annual price increase in the services index improved to 4.4 percent in June from 6.6 percent in May. On the other hand, higher annual price adjustments were noticed in H&R and FLW index at 1.5 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively from their corresponding last month’s rates of 1.4 percent and 19.1 percent. The annual price add-ons in FBT, clothing and miscellaneous items index remained at 2.2 percent, 1.4 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.

Annual inflation for food alone in NCR further climbed to 2.3 percent in June from 2.2 percent in May.

A higher annual price hike was recorded in cereal preparations index at 1.8 percent in June from 1.7 percent in May; eggs, 0.7 percent from 0.4 percent; fruits and vegetables, 1.1 percent from -0.7 percent; and miscellaneous foods, 2.9 percent from 2.7 percent. On the other hand, annual price upticks were slower in corn index at 17.2 percent from 24.0 percent; fish, 1.5 percent from 3.1 percent; and meat, 4.4 percent from 4.9 percent. A negative annual rate was still registered in the rice index at -0.3 percent from -0.8 percent. The annual price movement in the dairy products index remained at 1.4 percent for four consecutive months.

In AONCR, all the commodity groups posted slower annual price increments except for FBT index whose annual inflation was higher at 3.4 percent in June from 3.3 percent in May. Annual price gain in clothing index slipped to 2.2 percent in June from 2.4 percent in May; H&R, 1.7 percent from 1.9 percent; FLW, 13.4 percent from 14.6 percent; services, 3.6 percent from 5.3 percent; and miscellaneous items, 1.5 percent from 1.6 percent.

The annual price adjustment for food alone in AONCR picked up to 3.5 percent in June from 3.4 percent in May.

Annual price add-on in cereal preparations index was higher at 4.0 percent in June from 3.8 percent in May; fish, 3.6 percent from 3.4 percent; fruits and vegetables, 3.4 percent from 3.2 percent; meat, 5.8 percent from 5.5 percent; and miscellaneous foods, 7.5 percent from 7.2 percent.

Slower annual price increments were however seen in dairy products and eggs index at 1.5 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively from their corresponding previous month’s rates of 1.7 percent and 3.0 percent. Moreover, the annual price movement in corn index was still negative at -3.2 percent from -6.3 percent.

The rice index in AONCR posted a zero annual growth in June from 0.4 percent in May. The negative annual price adjustments in the rice index in six regions offsetted the positive annual growths in the other regions. The lowest annual growth was registered in Northern Mindanao at -3.3 percent while the highest rate of 2.9 percent was in Central Visayas.

Prices in NCR went up to 0.2 percent in June from -1.0 percent in May. A higher price increase was noted in FBT index at 0.5 percent in June from 0.2 percent in May; H&R, 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent; services, 0.3 percent from -0.3 percent; and miscellaneous items, 0.1 percent from zero growth. Prices of clothing items generally remained stable as its index had a zero growth from 0.1 percent while that for FLW items was still negative at -0.8 percent from -8.6 percent.
Prices in AONCR rose to 0.2 percent in June from 0.1 percent in May. Higher price gains were correspondingly observed in FBT and services index at 0.3 percent and 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. Price increases in H&R and miscellaneous items index were however slower at 0.1 percent from their corresponding last month’s rates of 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent. Price gain in clothing index remained at 0.1 percent while prices of FLW items further dropped by -0.4 percent from -0.1 percent.
Month-on-month inflation rates in June were higher in seven regions with Davao recording the highest rate of 0.8 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest rate was noticed in ARMM at -0.2 percent.
Among the three big areas in the country, price add-ons in general were both higher in Luzon and Mindanao compared to Visayas.

Consumer prices at the national level generally went up by 0.2 percent in June from -0.2 percent in May. Price mark-ups in FBT and services index were higher at 0.4 percent in June from their corresponding last month’s rates of 0.1 percent and zero growth. Prices of miscellaneous items also moved up but at a slower pace of 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent while those for clothing and H&R items remained at 0.1 percent. Prices of FLW items were still on the downtrend as its index posted a negative rate of -0.6 percent from -3.4 percent.
The change in climate experienced during the month lowered the production of vegetables. Moreover, the lean month in the production of onions and tomatoes also limited their supply in the markets. Price mark-ups in off-season fruits were also noted in NCR. Thus, the aggregate index for fruits and vegetables in the Philippines and AONCR went up to 1.9 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively from their corresponding last month’s rates of 1.7 percent and 1.1 percent. The group’s index in NCR also increased but at a slower rate of 3.1 percent from 3.7 percent.
The increments in the prices of NFA rice in NCR pulled up the group’s index in the area by 0.7 percent during the month. On the other hand, enough supply of rice in selected regions due to the harvest season pushed down the rice index in the Philippines and AONCR by -0.1 percent and -0.2 percent, respectively.
Lower supply of chicken in the markets was still observed during the month. Hence, the meat index in the Philippines gained 0.5 percent and NCR, 0.6 percent from their corresponding last month’s rates of 0.4 percent and 0.5 percent. In AONCR, price hike in meat index remained at 0.4 percent. Higher prices of pork and beef in many regions including NCR also contributed to the uptrend.
The continued general upward adjustments in the prices of selected spices and seasonings along with price increases in sugar in most of the regions including NCR raised the miscellaneous foods index in the Philippines by 0.4 percent; NCR, 0.1 percent; and AONCR, 0.5 percent.
The fish index in the Philippines and NCR correspondingly dropped by -0.1 percent and -1.2 percent due to the reductions in the prices of shrimps, crabs and shells and mollusks during the month. On the contrary, the index for fish in AONCR slightly picked up to 0.1 percent.

Tuition fee hikes in many regions including NCR mainly effected the 0.4 percent growth in the services index in the Philippines; 0.3 percent in NCR; and 0.4 percent in AONCR.

The H&R index in the Philippines and AONCR rose to 0.1 percent and in NCR, 0.2 percent as prices of selected construction materials went up during the month.

The general downward price adjustments in LPG and kerosene nationwide along with the lower charges for electricity rates in NCR resulted to declines in the FLW index in the three areas: Philippines, -0.6 percent; NCR, -0.8 percent; and AONCR, -0.4 percent.
