GRPI in NCR increased further in May 2021

The GRPI in NCR continued to move upward as its annual growth rate went up further to 2.1 percent in May 2021, from 2.0 percent in the previous month. Its annual change in May 2020 was recorded at 0.6 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The uptrend was mainly due to the higher double-digit annual increment posted in the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 20.3 percent in May 2021, from 20.2 percent in April 2021.

Moreover, a higher annual uptick of 0.4 percent was both registered in the indices of machinery and transport equipment, and miscellaneous manufactured articles.

Meanwhile, annual increases decelerated in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels at 1.7 percent; and chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 0.8 percent. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month’s annual growth rates during the month. (Table 2)
