General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : November 2011

    On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a zero growth in November from 0.7 percent in October as beverages and tobacco and miscellaneous manufactured articles indexes also registered a zero growth during the month. The heavily-weighted food index dropped by -0.2 percent from 2.0 percent. Moreover, a slower monthly price gain was observed in manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials index at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent. On the other hand, crude materials, inedible except fuels index; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats index; and machinery and transport equipment index went up at a higher rate of 0.1 percent from zero growth and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index, 1.5 percent from -0.8 percent.

    Price reductions were noted in vegetables, sugar and cooking oil. On the contrary, prices of diesel fuel and kerosene were on the uptrend. 
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR slowed down to 2.8 percent in November from 3.8 percent in October. The annual increment in the food index was lower at 3.1 percent in November from 5.6 percent in October; beveraqes and tobacco index, 3.0 percent from 3.1 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index, 13.5 percent from 14.6 percent; machinery and transport equipment index, 1.5 percent from 1.6 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles index, 1.1 percent from 1.3 percent. The other commodity groups have higher annual rates.
