Year-on-Year

  •           The annual growth in the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up at a faster pace of 0.7 percent in November 2015. Last month, it was pegged at 0.5 percent and in November 2014, 3.0 percent. The uptrend was mainly due to the 2.7 percent growth registered in the food index. On the other hand, the annual increments in the indices of beverages and tobacco and chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats correspondingly slowed down to 3.4 percent and 0.6 percent. Moreover, annual declines were posted in the indices of crude materials inedible, except fuels at -0.8 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, -14.9 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, -0.2 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, -0.4 percent. Annual movement in the miscellaneous manufactured articles index remained at 1.1 percent.

 Month-on-Month

On a monthly basis, the GRPI in NCR went up by 0.2 percent in November, the same rate recorded last month.

  • The food index grew by 0.6 percent due to higher prices of meat, fish, fruits and vegetables.

  • The machinery and transport equipment index inched up 0.1 percent as electrical wires were priced higher during the month.

  • Meanwhile, the series of price roll backs in petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene pushed down the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by 0.4 percent.

  • All the other commodity groups exhibited a flat growth during the month.
