GRPI in NCR continued to move at a higher rate in October 2022

The annual increment of GRPI in NCR accelerated further to 6.0 percent in October 2022, from 5.9 percent in September 2022. This is the highest recorded annual growth rate since November 2008. In October 2021, the annual change of GRPI was observed at 2.1 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The continued uptrend of the October 2022 GRPI was primarily due to the higher annual increase in the food index at 9.5 percent, from 8.6 percent in September 2022. In addition, higher year-on-year increment were noted in the indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Beverages and tobacco, 7.0 percent;
          b. Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 3.1 percent;
          c. Chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 3.6 percent; and
          d. Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.3 percent.

On the contrary, the annual growth rate of the mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index decelerated to 17.3 percent in October 2022, from 25.5 percent in September 2022.

Meanwhile, the indices of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, and machinery and transport equipment retained their respective previous months’ annual growth rates. (Table 2)
