1. Annual rate of GWPI at the national level remains at 2.0 percent

     The annual rate of change of GWPI at the country level went up by 2.0 percent which was the same as the annual rate in September 2019. In October 2018, GWPI picked up by 2.2 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

     Among commodity groups, a higher annual mark-up of 2.1 percent was noted in the index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials. On the other hand, slower annual increases were registered in the indices of food, and beverages and tobacco at 3.5 percent and 13.2 percent, respectively. Also, annual declines were still recorded in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 14.4 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 12.8 percent; and
  • Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 4.3 percent.

The indices of machinery and transport equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles retained their corresponding previous month’s annual rates of 2.7 percent and 1.6 percent. (Table 2)

2. Annual change of GWPI in Luzon picks up

     The annual increment of GWPI in Luzon eased to 2.0 percent in October 2019. Its annual rate in the previous month was posted at 2.2 percent and in October 2018, 2.1 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

     Annual decreases were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 15.6 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 13.7 percent; and
  • Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 4.6 percent.

In addition, annual hikes recorded in the indices of food slowed down to 3.6 percent, and beverages and tobacco, 13.3 percent. The rest of the commodity groups maintained their previous month’s annual rates. (Table 2)

3. Year-on-year change of GWPI in Visayas climbs

     The annual rate of change of GWPI in Visayas rose by 2.4 percent in October 2019. Its annual growth in the previous month was registered at 1.6 percent and in October 2018, 2.9 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

     Annual upticks in the indices of food were higher at 5.4 percent, and beverages and tobacco, 16.1 percent. Annual declines were, however, observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 7.4 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 8.0 percent;
  • Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.4 percent; and
  • Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, other commodity groups had zero growth during the month. (Table 2)

4. Annual rate of GWPI in Mindanao accelerates

     The annual gain of GWPI in Mindanao was higher at 1.0 percent in October 2019 than in the previous month which had an annual change of 0.6 percent. In October 2018, the annual growth rate of GWPI was 3.9 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

     Annual hike in the index of beverages and tobacco was higher at 6.4 percent. Meanwhile, annual increases were slower in the indices of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials and machinery and transport equipment at 1.1 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively. In addition, the indices of the following commodity groups exhibited negative annual rates during the month:

  • Food, 0.2 percent;
  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 3.1 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 0.3 percent; and
  • Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.4 percent.

Furthermore, the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles retained its previous month’s annual rate of 4.7 percent. (Table 2)
