Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - November 2006)

  1. A. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT in NCR and AONCR posted correspondingly at 130.6 and 133.7 in November were higher than their respective October levels of 130.5 and 133.0.

Seasonal factor like the on-going harvest season of palay observed in selected provinces lowered the price of rice in NCR and AONCR. Thus, prices of FBT items in the two areas were generally pushed down by this seasonal factor relative to the expected trend.

On a monthly basis, prices of seasonally adjusted FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly picked up by 0.1 percent and 0.5 percent in November. These were however slower than their respective October rates of 1.2 percent and 0.6 percent.

  2. B. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR rose to 151.5 in November from 151.0 in October. Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in AONCR remained at 144.3 for three consecutive months. The continued production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season resulting to adequate supply of goods in the markets pushed down prices of non-FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR went up to 0.3 percent in November from -0.1 percent in October while a zero growth was registered in AONCR.
