(NCR and AONCR - June 2009)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR went up to 151.6 in June from 151.4 in May while that for AONCR decreased to 163.1 from 163.2.

Seasonal factors such as the weather disturbances that were experienced during the month and the opening of classes pushed up prices of FBT items in two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR was at its last month’s rate of 0.1 percent while in AONCR, it continued to post a negative rate of 0.1 percent from -0.4 percent in May.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR went down to 159.4 in June from 159.5 in May. On the other hand, the seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items for AONCR picked up to 157.7 in June from 157.2 in May.

Higher demand for school supplies, clothing and footwear items brought about by the opening of classes pulled up prices of non-FBT items in two areas. The practice of increasing tuition fees every start of the school year also raised prices of non-FBT items relative to the expected trend.

Compared to last month, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR recorded a negative rate of 0.1 percent in June from -0.5 percent in May. However, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in AONCR registered an increment of 0.3 percent from zero growth last month.
