Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - November 2004)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR went down to 163.6 in November from 164.2 in October while that for AONCR increased to 172.3 from 171.5.

The seasonal factor like the on-going harvest season of palay still observed in selected provinces resulted to lower prices of rice in the two areas. Thus, prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR were pushed down by this seasonal factor.

The month-on month inflation of seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR declined to -0.4 percent in November from 0.5 percent in October. On the other hand, increments in the prices of seasonally adjusted FBT items in AONCR at 0.5 percent was the same rate recorded last month.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly picked up to 211.2 and 203.2 in November from their respective October levels of 206.8 and 202.1. The continued production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season did not push down prices of non-FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

Compared to October 2004, prices of seasonally adjusted non-FBT items in NCR grew by 2.1 percent in November from 0.4 percent. Additions in the prices of non-FBT items in AONCR however slightly slowed to 0.5 percent from 0.6 percent.
