Seasonally Adjusted Consumer Price Index (2018=100): October 2024

1. Philippines

At the national level, the seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items posted a month-on-month increment of 0.1 percent in October 2024 from a monthly decrease of 0.1 percent in September 2024.

Similarly, the deseasonalized CPI of food and non-alcoholic beverages registered a monthly increase of 0.4 percent from a month-on-month decline of 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Meanwhile, slower monthly increases during the month were noted in the deseasonalized indices of clothing and footwear, and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, both at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent in September 2024. Moreover, the monthly rate for health index recorded a slower increment of 0.2 percent in  October 2024 from 0.3 percent in the previous month.

From a monthly decline of 1.2 percent in September 2024, the seasonally adjusted CPI for transport recorded a zero percent monthly rate in  October 2024.

The deseasonalized CPI for personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services was noted at 0.2 percent during the month, the same monthly rate observed in September 2024.

On the other hand, the seasonally adjusted CPI for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded a month-on-month drop of 0.2 percent from a monthly increase of 0.2 percent in September 2024.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, pulled down the indices of the following:

          a. All items;    
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;  
          c. Clothing and footwear;  
          d. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; 
          e. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; 
          f.  Health; and 
          g. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services. 

However, the seasonal factors pushed up the transport index. (Table 1)


2. National Capital Region (NCR)             

The deseasonalized CPI for all items in NCR posted a monthly decline of 0.4 percent in October 2024 from a month-on-month increase of 0.2 percent in September 2024.

Likewise, monthly decreases were observed in the deseasonalized indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, both at 0.5 percent in October 2024 from their corresponding month-on-month upticks of 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Meanwhile, slower month-on-month increment was noted in the deseasonalized index of personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent in September 2024.

In contrast, the seasonally adjusted CPI for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance recorded a faster monthly increase of 0.2 percent during the month from 0.1 percent in September 2024.

The seasonally adjusted CPI for health remained at 0.2 percent in October 2024.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, pushed up the indices of all items and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

However, these seasonal factors pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels;
          b. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; 
          c. Health; and
          d. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services. (Table 2) 
 

3. Areas Outside National Capital Region (AONCR)

In AONCR, the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items posted a monthly increment of 0.3 percent in October 2024 from a month-on-month drop of 0.3 percent in September 2024.

The same trend was observed for the deseasonalized indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.6 percent from -0.6 percent;
          b. Transport, 0.3 percent from -1.3 percent; and
          c. Education services, 0.1 percent from -0.2 percent.

Meanwhile, faster monthly increases were observed in the deseasonalized indices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 0.2 percent in October 2024 from 0.1 percent in September 2024, and restaurants and accommodation services at 0.3 percent from 0.1 percent last month.

However, the seasonally adjusted CPI for health recorded a slower month-on-month increment of 0.2 percent in October 2024 from 0.4 percent in the previous month.

The monthly increase of the deseasonalized index for clothing and footwear remained at 0.1 percent in October 2024.

From a monthly uptick of 0.1 percent in September 2024, the seasonally adjusted CPI for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels registered a month-on-month drop of 0.2 percent in October 2024.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services, pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

          a. All items;   
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;   
          c. Clothing and footwear; 
          d. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels;   
          e. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; 
          f.  Health;
          g. Transport; and
          h. Restaurants and accommodation services.

The seasonal factors, however, pushed up the education services index. (Table 3)
