Seasonally Adjusted Consumer Price Index (2018=100): December 2024

1. Philippines

In the Philippines, the seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items recorded a faster month-on-month increase of 0.5 percent in December 2024 from 0.2 percent in November 2024.

Similarly, the deseasonalized indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport registered faster monthly increments in December 2024 at 0.4 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively, from their corresponding monthly rates of 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent in the previous month.

From a month-on-month decrement of 0.2 percent in November 2024, the seasonally adjusted CPI of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded a monthly increase of 0.7 percent during the month.

On the contrary, slower monthly increment was observed in the deseasonalized index of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 0.2 percent in December 2024 from 0.4 percent in November 2024.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted indices for the following commodity groups retained their respective month-on-month growth rates in the previous month:

          a. Clothing and footwear at 0.1 percent;
          b. Health at 0.2 percent; and 
          c. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 0.3 percent.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, did not affect the index for all items.

Meanwhile, these seasonal factors pushed up the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

On the other hand, it pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Clothing and footwear;     
          b. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels;    
          c. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance;    
          d. Health;
          e. Transport; and
          f.  Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services. (Table 1)


2. National Capital Region (NCR)               

The seasonally adjusted CPI for all items in NCR registered a faster monthly increase of 0.8 percent in December 2024 from 0.7 percent in November 2024.

Likewise, a faster month-on-month increment was noted in the deseasonalized CPI of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 0.8 percent in December 2024 from 0.4 percent in the previous month.

From a zero monthly rate in November 2024, the seasonally adjusted CPI of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance inched up to 0.1 percent in December 2024.

On the other hand, slower month-on-month increases were noted in the deseasonalized indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 1.0 percent in December 2024 from 1.4 percent in the previous month, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 0.2 percent during the month from 0.4 percent in November 2024.

The seasonally adjusted CPI of health retained its November 2024 monthly rate of 0.1 percent.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, pushed up the indices of all items and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

However, it pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; 
          b. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance;   
          c. Health; and  
          d. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services. (Table 2)   
 

3. Areas Outside National Capital Region (AONCR)

In AONCR, the deseasonalized CPI for all items registered a monthly increase of 0.5 percent in December 2024 from a zero percent monthly rate in November 2024.

Faster month-on-month increments were observed in the seasonally adjusted indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.3 percent from 0.1 percent;
          b. Transport, 2.4 percent from 0.2 percent; and
          c. Education services, 0.3 percent from 0.1 percent.

Moreover, the deseasonalized CPI of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded a monthly increase of 0.9 percent during the month from a month-on-month decline of 0.5 percent in November 2024.

In contrast, slower monthly increases were observed in the deseasonalized indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. Clothing and footwear, 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent;
          b. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 0.3 percent from 0.5 percent;
          c. Health, 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent; and
          d. Restaurants and accommodation services, 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services, pulled down the indices of the following during the month:  

          a. All items;     
          b. Clothing and footwear;      
          c. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels;   
          d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance;     
          e. Health;   
          f.  Transport; and
          g. Restaurants and accommodation services.

The seasonal factors, however, pushed up the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and education services. (Table 3)
