Month-on-Month Growth Rates

  • Philippines
  • The month-on-month growth in the seasonally adjusted consumer price index (CPI) for all items inched up by 0.1 percent in November from zero growth in October; alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent; clothing and footwear, 0.4 percent from 0.3 percent; and recreation and culture, 0.3 percent from 0.1 percent. Meanwhile, increases in the indices for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health and education slowed down to 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent. The indices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services retained their respective October rate of 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent.

    The preparations for the coming holiday season resulted to the increase in the production of selected goods. This seasonal factor pushed down the indices for all items; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; recreation and culture; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services relative to the expected trend. On the other hand, this seasonal factor pushed up education index during the month.

  • National Capital Region (NCR)
  • Measured a month ago, the seasonally adjusted CPI in NCR for alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 1.0 percent in November from 0.9 percent in October. The increment in the transport index at 0.1 percent was however slower compared to 0.4 percent growth last month. While a zero growth was posted in non-food index, adjustments in the indices for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and education remained at 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

    The continued production of selected goods generally pulled down the alcoholic beverages and tobacco index; non-food index; and transport index. This seasonal factor however pushed up the indices for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and education.

  • Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)
  • On a monthly basis, the seasonally adjusted CPI for clothing and footwear and recreation culture in AONCR grew by 0.3 percent in November from their corresponding October rates of 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco index moved at its last month rate of 0.4 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; health; restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services indices, 0.2 percent; and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and education indices, 0.3 percent.

    The seasonal factor of bigger production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season generally pulled down the indices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; recreation and culture; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services. On the contrary, the index for education was pushed up by this seasonal factor.
