Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - July 2011)
(2000=100)

A. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly picked up to 160.4 and 176.2 in July from their respective June levels of 160.0 and 175.8.

The effects of weather disturbances experienced last month limited the supply of selected vegetables coming from the uplands. This resulted to upward price adjustments of some vegetables in the wet markets in NCR and AONCR during the period. Higher prices of fruits not in season were also noted. In addition, the inclement weather conditions during the past weeks reduced the fishermen’s fishing trips thus increasing prices of selected fish species in the markets. Lower production of eggs affected by these weather conditions likewise raised its prices in NCR and AONCR. Hence, upward movements in prices of FBT items in the two areas were attributed to these seasonal factors.

Compared to last month, the increment in the prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR went up to 0.2 percent in July from their corresponding previous month’s rates of 0.1 percent and -0.2 percent.

B. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted at 175.9 and 173.1 in July were lower than their June levels of 176.2 and 173.4, respectively.

The lean month of July raised prices of non-FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non- FBT items in NCR and AONCR was recorded at -0.2 percent.
